  Fon Joeng - Antique Material Art for Wellness

 FonJoengis a military martial art form created and evolved over 700 years in the ancient age of Lanna. Predominantly governed by a feudal system, this region with its large territory and community was fraught with military conflicts while trying to establish itself as a kingdom, which inevitably needed regular soldier combat training programs. Records and accounts of FonJoeng, including close-combat and swordsmanship martial art forms can still be found on palm leaf scriptures in Lannacharacters from the area.

 Today, FonJoenghas become a popular recreational exercise in northern Thailand. With its unique identity and style, FonJoengis also demonstrated and displayed at local festivities as the well-known “LannaTai Chi”.

  Rue-See-Dud-Ton (Hermit Exercise)  

 This particular kind of exercise uses slow movements of the body to relax body muscles and relieve muscle pain as a part of natural healing practice. This exercise helps to improve the movement of arms, legs and joints and improves the blood flow in the body. This increases immunity to live a longer life and reduces anger, stress, drowsiness and depression. Breathing exercises can be included to improve respiration.

  Tok Sen - Tapping Line or Hammer Massage 

 TokSenis considered to the holy ancient healing wisdom of Lannafolk doctors, passed on for about 752 years, originating in the Chiang Saenperiod and passed on strictly only to family members or relatives. Sometimes this technique is passed on outsiders by means of a highly selective method measuring not only skills but seeking a dignified, moral character, which almost caused this art to become extinct. Hammer Massage includes light pounding with a hammer and wedges to stimulate muscle reflexes and to relax tendons, thus releasing stress and pain in any certain area. This method has been preserved and passed on in specific areas of the northern part of Thailand.
 

  Yum Kang – Hot Herbal Massage  

 “Yum Kang” (Pla-Tai-Na) is one of the traditional chiropractic massages used for healing body pain and fatigue invented by the Lanna, an ancient northern Thai people. This traditional massage includes the use of heat by dipping the masseur’s feet in warm cassumunarginger water or sesame oil. The masseur then heats his feet with red-hot metal called Kang and treads on the patient’s body, concentrating on the parts that are in pain while chanting ancient spells. “Yum Kang” is now a procedure protected as an ancient exotic art for healing that has featured in shows and has become popular among visitors from around the world.
